Remember

Today some photographs, rather than strings of words.  This display was made up of knitted poppies at the Chelsea Flower Show. I stood with the crowd and moved slowly forward to take these pictures.  As we did so, the chattering softened and died – until we stood together in silence, looking and remembering.  Such a sacrifice.  Many would have had family involved in the battles that were commemorated.  Many stood in silent affirmation and gratitude of the lives lost.

On Sunday a poppy petal will fall in Lincoln cathedral in memory of my great uncle whom I never knew but who gave his life in the second world war.  My heart aches for him and for the millions of others who have fallen and are still falling.  And so, even now, I remember.  Do you?

About Mandy Hackland

My love in life is to encourage others to deepen their relationship with God. I write devotional material, stories and small group studies with that in mind. I live in South Africa and also love spending time in the bush, bird watching and walking. I do live in the city but make the most of the green spaces that surround me.
